Would you like to forge weld your own Viking style bickhorn for use in historical blacksmithing projects?
I offer a two-day anvil forging class as a follow-up to my stake anvil class. It is be an intensive class for 2 intermediate/advanced blacksmithing students. Students and I will work as a team to forge and weld a bickhorn (double-horned stake) for both students.
The bickhorns will be forged from mild steel and faced with a plate of 1075 tool steel. The most challenging step of the project will be a large cleft weld between the shank and horns of the bickhorn. Bickhorns were common in the Viking age and are well suited to the forging of tools and hardware. They have shanks for mounting in stumps and are nicely transportable.
I will need exactly 2 students to run this class. As time goes on I will seek to forge larger and more complex anvils, and will be offering more classes of this type. Join the crew!
